I can’t speak for where you might live, but this winter has been nothing short of phenomenal!! I am not one to absolutely abhor winter, but I am certainly not going to turn down a month where half of the days hit 50 or above. That’s right, January 2012 officially had 15 days where temperatures met or exceeded 50 degrees! The average high for the month was 49 degrees and the average low was 32 degrees. Are you kidding me!? This explains why the daffodils in our yard are already pushing greens as high as 4”. Its February 1st. Amazing. Because of the mild temperatures I have been able to do a lot of running already this year. For January I totaled over 53 miles. That is more than I ran in June of last year! Of course, Mother Nature finds a way to balance herself. While winter may have never checked in with us the poor folks in Alaska, Eastern Europe, and Russia are certainly getting their fill.

Of course ... I probably just jinxed it all and in February and/or March we're going to get rocked!

Yikes! Hmmmm, this has me slightly concerned. Pictured below is a screen capture from the logging statistics on my website. I have added two red stars to draw your attention to the fact that I had two hits from Leavenworth inside of 20 minutues. Leavenworth!? As in Leavenworth, KS, the largest maximum security federal prison.

We finally did it! Mike and I have finally taken the plunge and joined the modern era and got ourselves some smartphones. Mike had been due for an upgrade and my upgrade was just around the corner so for a small fee we jumped the gun. We each got one of these, the Motorola Droid Bionic. We went the route of certified pre-owned to save a bit of money.

We talked to a lot of friends, got a lot of advice, and did our research. The one thing that stuck out above all else was that it would take a while for the "phonemance" to wear off. I think we are each still quite high on our phone-romance. We knew we'd love smartphones but we could never stomach the cost of a data plan. In any event ... modern world, the Melchiors have arrived!

While not a new ballpark for me, I have pictures to document my latest visit to Camden Yards to watch the Oriole's get beat in interleague play by the NY Mets.

Since shelleypotts.com has become pretty constant in its design, site updates will be infrequent. As a result, I am entertaining doing away w/ the site updates column and making the blog just one column. After all, most of our free time will be taken up w/ house updates anyway!
